Title: Women in Leadership

Synopsis: This seminar course is designed for female students in the leadership track as a professional development opportunity. A strengths based approach is utilized to assist students in developing their leadership skills in their chosen field of study. Students have the opportunity to identify their strengths, study characteristics of women leaders from various fields, and study characteristics of biblical women leaders. The course will include discussion, group activity, lecture, and guest speakers. At the conclusion of the course students will identify goals for intentional development of personal strengths in their chosen vocation

Course Objectives

As a result of this course the students will be able to:
1. Identify and relate personal strengths to leadership
2. Evaluate leaders based on Christian Leadership Development Model
3. Examine biblical, cultural, and contemporary models of women in leadership
4. Create a personal model of leadership

What is a leader?
What women leaders have been influential in your life?

Selection of women for character study
Discussion about the three categories (Students will select one woman from each category for a total of three critiques); women from the Bible, women of faith from the 20th century, women that have influenced culture

Week 2 Identify women for character study

KWL chart and discussion of Unit 1

Week 3 Unit 2 (God’s Women) Old Testament Foundation
Guided research-explanation of Week 4 assignment

Week 4 Unit 3 (God’s Women) New Testament Foundation
Oral presentation of Women Leader from the Bible

Week 5 Unit 4 (God’s Women) Specific Issues in Local Churches

Character Study

Objective: As a result of this assignment the student will be able to
-research women in leadership
-identify commonalities of women in leadership
-identify personal strengths and weakness in leadership


Procedures:
1. Using the texts provided in your syllabi select one woman for each section of your paper.

2. Section III of your paper (Contemporary Model of a Woman in Leadership) will involve a personal interview. This should be conducted well in advance of the oral presentation.

3. Outline the paper as follows
